Perhaps you are wondering, what exactly is this "body therapy" that I'm doing?

In recent years, a lot of research has shown the importance of being able to feel your body and your emotions (scientists call it "interoception"). Many problems people have today come from how much time we spend thinking and in stress, and forgetting to stop and feel ourselves. Sometimes we even forget where to look to know what we are feeling. Being able to think well and correctly is important, but it is equally important to be able to relax sometimes and just feel your body. This allows you to process and deal with all the events you've experienced and for your body's systems to recover.

However, for many of us, when we do relax, when we sit somewhere in stillness, we start feeling uneasy. Difficult feelings, often vague, appear, and have us pick up our phones, or get a glass of whisky or smoke a cigarette or some other such strategy.

Or, we sit there and everything is numb, gray and blank. We sort of know that we should be feeling something, but there's nothing there, and yet it's impossible to relax.

Either way, you may need some support to wind down and come back to your body. This will also make it easier to feel connected with others, and to have them feel connected with you.

What I do

Essentially, it's as simple as me helping you to relax.

Me helping you to ground yourself in your body, to feel yourself in a way you've forgotten how to.

We all carry tension. Some of them we're aware of, but a lot of them we don't even notice.

Such tension can lead to symptoms such as pain and problems in your wrists, lower back, neck, knees, etc. These are just examples, it can manifest in many ways and in many places. It's also relatively common for it to lead to headaches, fatigue, or even burnout if it goes too far.

So what I can help you with is to land in your body. To be more embodied. More fluid and alive. Not in any way in opposition to your ability to think or to manage your everyday life, but by helping you to make thinking more voluntary and deepen your ability and capacity to feel your body. You need to be able to switch off sometimes and just rest.

What technique do I use?

I am trained and certified by ManuVision, a Danish body therapy school. My teachers there have recently been involved in a scientific study where their body therapy system was tested as a complement to traditional psychotherapy for Danish war veterans with PTSD, with good, albeit preliminary, results (in Danish). Six months after treatment, 25% of those who received body therapy were no longer classified with PTSD, compared to 0% of those who only received traditional psychotherapy.

It has many points of contact with Somatic Experiencing, Basic Body Awareness Therapy, Alexander Technique, and other somatic therapy techniques. What we have in common is that we take a holistic perspective on body and mind, and don't get caught up in the need to understand everything, sometimes it's better to just feel, relax, and allow the system to unwind. At the same time, understanding can help to create safety, so we're not at all against it."

What kinds of sessions are possible?

There are some options.

The best option is that we have a short (free) call (see below) where to talk through what is best for you and find a time. It is both possible that you come to me, that I come to you, and that we do it over video.

At your place?

Yes, it's possible if you live in Stockholm. Ideally you have a space where you can lie down and I can move freely around you, so like a spot that's around 2 x 4 meters. But it is also possible to a session sitting or standing.

At my place?

Yes, and it's generally the better option. It's cheaper for you than me travelling to your place, and we can use my massage table to make it more comfortable for both of us. And compared to a video call I have better possibilities to co-regulate with you, and it's easier to help you to deep relaxation.

Video call?

Yes, it's actually possible. Through aconversation and by guiding you I can help you feel your body and your emotions more, and I can show you some exercises for your particular patterns of tensions. Try it and see, it works better than you'd expect.

How much does it cost?

1 session:1200 sek / session
5 sessions:1050 sek / session
10 sessions:900 sek / session

If you want me to come to you, I'll charge 500 sek per hour of transport (there and back). This is by subway or bike from Hammarbyhöjden, Stockholm.

Health benefits, "Friskvårdsbidraget"?

Yes, my services can be covered by the "friskvårdsbidrag" (subject to your employers approval). You'll get a receipt you an submit for reimbursement.
